About us

The Cornerstone meeting and training centre belongs to the International  Focolare-Movement for training and meetings of members of the Focolare Movement as well as for others interested in the spirituality of unity.  The main aim of this movement is to encourage dialogue in all areas.  The Cornerstone training and meeting centre also welcomes groups of hosts.

Brief historical review

Up until 1974 the building served as a girls home for the workers of the 'mill on the Lorze'. Unused for two years, it was bought in 1976 thanks to  generous support of members of the Focolare Movement, then renovated and transformed by stages (1997/98 et 2005) . The ecumenical opening ceremony of the Centre on 6th September 1978 was in the presence of Mgr Anton Hänggi, Jakob Frei pastor from Kappel and the Metropolitan Emilianos Timiadis from Geneva.

Small city “Cornerstone”

It is a small city in the heart of the town of Baar (ZG), comprised of families, small businesses, inhabitants, holiday apartments, garden, chapel and training building.  Its inhabitants and hosts want to try to live together basing their relationships on mutual love as shown in the Gospels.

The main small businesses of “Cornerstone”are: Von und Für, a second-hand shop and an artistic workshop Il Risorto.  There is also a nursery called Miraculix. In summer 2014 also the book store Verlag "Neue Stadt" opened its swiss branch here.

A special place for holidays

The magnificent surrounding, near the lake of Zug, offers numerous possibilities for excursions: hiking in the mountains, beautiful walks (also suitable for push chairs), excursions by boat and bike, indoor or outdoor swimming pool, etc.  The lovers of cultural activities will also find something to satisfy them.  Give your soul space and rest in a relaxed atmosphere.

Recharge your batteries!

We all feel in need of refreshment from time to time.  A few day, a few weeks, or even longer.  At «Cornerstone» you can « detach» and draw into relationship with God and yourself.  Alone or with others.  Religious services, times of silence, meditation, prove to be an invaluable source of balance.
